Lot description
Octo Gravitas XXIV signed and dated 2017 (lower right) oil on canvas 56" x 48" (142 cm x 122 cm) Accompanied by a certificate signed by the artist confirming the authenticity of this lot Standing as a powerful entry in his Octo Gravitas series from 2017, Edwin Wilwayco's Octo Gravitas XXIV portrays an abstract and vibrant composition of spiraling forms, overlapping circular motifs of reds, blues, and yellows that pulse against a luminous pink background. With his technique reflecting his artistic journey, the textural depth, created through layers of acrylic and oil, rewards close inspection while maintaining visual harmony from a distance. The artist describes the act of painting as "a discovery" where "all sorts of possibilities open up," as seen in his balanced approach of calculated gesture and disciplined spontaneity, which allows colors to interact organically while maintaining compositional integrity.
