Lot description

Red Rider signed and dated 2017 (lower left) oil on canvas 36" x 48" (91 cm x 122 cm)   Accompanied by a certificate signed by the artist confirming the authenticity of this lot   Known for creating hyperreal figurative painting that blends photorealism and surrealism, Jayson Cortez's Red Rider showcases his skills, honed over more than a decade of experience as a full-time artist. Focusing on the female form, flora, and fauna to express his perception of beauty and emotional state, as well as his journey toward personal joy and artistic freedom. This piece perfectly captures his focus as it illustrates a young woman dressed in white, riding a brown horse, with a trail of fire burning from her red clothes, and her eyes covered with flowers. What's striking about this image is the numerous symbols present in the canvas. The burning red cloak (which might be a reference to the fairytale Red Riding Hood), the white dress, and flowers symbolize innocence, purity, and its eventual transformation into something more as the woman rides above the horse, which is represented as a symbol of freedom or a journey. It's a piece about every woman's journey and eventual growth and transition from childhood to womanhood. (Mark John Castañeda)
