EXHIBITED Osage Gallery, Charlie Co: Possessions, Hong Kong, 6 June - 15 July 2007 Osage Gallery, Universal Theater, Singapore, 2008 Osage Beijing, Charlie Co: Beijing Residency Exhibition, Beijing, China, 2007 Charlie Co's Crows at Chang'an Jie showcases the artist's surrealist view of Chang'an Jie (known as Chang'an Avenue, a major thoroughfare in China where Tiananmen Square, along with many critical Chinese landmarks, are located), which often represents China as a whole. The use of crows, which he usually viewed as the harbinger of destruction and death, crying at a barren tree as the sky runs red, highlights the artist's views about the country's social injustice and lack of democratic rights, as well as freedom of expression.
