A riotous explosion of color and attitude, this original 1993 silkscreen concert poster captures the raw energy of a triple-threat lineup: Helmet, The Jesus Lizard, and Therapy?, performing live at Crawford Hall, U.C. Irvine on Saturday, May 8. Designed by the legendary Frank Kozik, the poster features his unmistakable pop-surrealist style with bold lettering, a grotesquely cartoonish lizard-man figure, and a trippy psychedelic background composed of repeated, stylized images of Jack Nicholson's infamous grin from The Shining. The design is electric, neon hues of yellow, orange, red, and green pop against stark blacks and blues, delivering an iconic slice of early 90s alternative rock visual culture. The bands featured here, Helmet with their tight, metallic crunch; The Jesus Lizard's visceral, noise-rock theatrics; and Therapy's post-punk grit, represent a moment in music history when underground aggression collided with mainstream visibility. Frank Kozik was a revolutionary American graphic artist and art director best known for his posters promoting punk and alternative rock bands throughout the 1990s. Often credited with reviving the lost art of the concert poster, Kozik's provocative, absurdist visuals defined an era. His work is collected by the MoMA, the Smithsonian, and music and art fans worldwide. Printed on thick stock in rich, saturated inks, this poster is a dazzling and rare artifact of both Kozik's celebrated body of work and the alternative rock explosion of the early 1990s.
