Alfred Egerton Cooper, RBA, British 1883-1974- A seated female nude, resting her chin on her hands; pencil and watercolour on paper, signed 'AEC' (lower left), 48.7 x 37 cm. ARR. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: Cooper enjoyed particular success as a portraitist, with his sitters including King George VI and Winston Churchill, the latter of whom he portrayed five times. He also produced a number of elegant female nudes like the present work, which is rendered particularly striking by the artist's bold application of blues and pinks to evoke the luxurious folds of drapery which form the sitter's backdrop.
