Archibald George Barnes, British 1887-1972- A reclining female nude, on a green sofa; oil on canvas, signed 'BARNES' (lower right), 39.5 x 57 cm. ARR. Provenance: Private Collection, UK. Note: The present nude is an intimate example of Barnes's striking, elegant portraits, characterised by his bold application of colour within a pared-back composition. Another such example is his larger portrait entitled 'The Yellow Kimono', which sold at Christie's, London, on 7 July 2016, lot 123 (£22,500).
