Lot description

HEIMKEHR VOM FISCHFANG Öl auf Leinwand. Doubliert. 86,5 x 105 cm. Laut Vorbesitzertradition ehemals signiert und datiert „A. Willaerts 1636“. In vergoldetem, ornamental reliefiertem Rahmen. (1441931) (13) Abraham Willaerts, 1603 – 1669, attributed RETURNING HOME FROM FISHING Oil on canvas. Relined. 86.5 x 105 cm. According to the tradition of the previous owners, the painting was formerly signed and dated “A. Willaerts 1636”. The composition is typical of Willaerts and features a particularly diverse and detailed depiction of the staffage, even by his standards. The fish may have been painted in the workshop of Willem Ormea, with whom Willaerts collaborated. Notes: One of his paintings dated 1620 with a similar scene but featuring a Flemish-influenced colour palette, was held at the Warsaw Museum and sold at Sotheby's New York in 2024 for USD 260,000 (lot 324). (†)
