It was to be the last piece that England Bangala painted before he passed away later that year. Bangala has depicted a small creek, Mandijerra, which runs off the Cadell River in Central Arnhemland, with Gapalma - waterweed. Djingabarrdabirr, which are woven pandanus skirts worn by Burrarra and Gunardba women, are shown on the edge of the creek bank. These represent features of the landscape and also women of the Gunardba group. And each day can be seen immersing themselves and re-emerging from the fresh water. It was exhibited in his son's debut solo exhibition (An-Nguliny Rarrk - Mick Marrawa England) at Art Mob in October 2017. It was very special for Mick to be able to view his father's painting. © ENGLAND BANGGALA / Copyright Agency, 2025
