Jimmy Abeita (Born 1947) "Ready & Waiting" Graphite on Paper. Jimmy Abeita was born in Crownpoint, New Mexico in 1947. Jimmy was raised on the Navajo Reservation. He attended the American Academy of Art in Chicago but returned to the reservation in 1972, seeking a simpler way of life. At a young age, while herding sheep in the Canyon de Chelly, Abeita would draw on nearby sandstone as the animals grazed. He is known for his meticulous rendering of Diné life and the landscape of the southwest.
