Lot description

Carlo Cherubini, Ancona 1897 - Venezia, 1978 (Ancona) - Carlo Cherubini was born in Ancona on July 27, 1897, to Giuseppe Cherubini, also a painter, and Adelia Ceroni. While still a child, he moved with his family to Venice, settling in Campo Santo Stefano on the piano nobile of Palazzo Pisani. The firstborn of four siblings, he attended the classical high school and, as a student, made a significant trip to Germany. His artistic career had an early start: in 1913 he participated in the eighth collective exhibition at Ca' Pesaro in Venice and, the following year, exhibited at the Venice Biennale with the work "Bambino pensoso," making him the youngest artist on display. He later participated in three more editions of the Venice Biennale in 1922, 1924 and 1926.In 1927 he moved to Paris, where he decorated the Lido des Champs-Élysées. In 1929, a solo exhibition of his work was organized at the Galerie de la Renaissance in the French capital. In 1930 he received the Mention Honorable and in 1932 the Médaille d'Argent. In Paris he also painted the work "Si jeunesse savait" and the portrait of Gorge de la Fouchardière.In 1933 he went to New York, where he painted for the Lido Club on Long Island. In 1937 he exhibited in Pittsburgh. In 1940 he returned to Venice, where he executed a decoration at the Al Colombo restaurant.Recognizable and characteristic subjects of his artistic production include the female nude, masked figures and the Venetian landscape. His vibrant and luminous pictorial drafting, characterized by vivid colors, is particularly evocative and identifying of the painter .Several exhibitions have been dedicated to Carlo Cherubini: in 2012 the exhibition "Carlo Cherubini. A Venetian Painter in Paris" at the Nuova Arcadia Gallery in Padua, and in 2015, another exhibition of the same name was held in Scorzè, Villa Orsini. In 2011 a catalog of his works was published, edited by Guido Moro and Michele Rovoletto. His works are held in important public and private collections, including the Pinacoteca di Ascoli Piceno and the Galleria d'Arte Moderna Marangoni in Udine .Carlo Cherubini died in Venice in 1978.
