Lot description

Leonardo Roda, Racconigi 1868 - Torino 1933 (Racconigi 1868 - Turin 1933) - Leonardo Roda was born in 1868 in Racconigi, Italy. Raised in a family of mountaineers and botanical artists, he cultivated a love of mountains and art from a young age. He began his artistic career in 1889, exhibiting works at the Promotrice di Torino.Roda was known for his paintings of alpine landscapes and scenes of mountain life, often depicting the majestic Matterhorn. He also painted landscapes of the Po Valley and the Ligurian Sea. Throughout his career, he received recognition and awards for his work, but in the late 1920s he gave up exhibiting and retired from the art world. His painting has been described as a balance between realism and expressionism, with a focus on light and atmospheric changes. Roda was praised for his ability to capture the beauty of nature, both in the mountains and the countryside. His health began to decline in the 1930s, and Roda died in 1933. Although critics of the time were not always kind to him, his works are still admired and preserved in private collections and museums.
