DARIO DE REGOYOS Asturias 1857 - Barcelona 1913 Bullfighting scene. c. 1903 Watercolor on paper Signed Measurements 119 x 153 mm In 1903, when Regoyos lived in San Sebastián in Mugica-Enea, the new bullring called “El Chofre” was inaugurated on August 9th. Its construction was completed by the architect Francisco Urcola Lazcanotegui. On that occasion, Regoyos painted his famous painting “Exit of the Bulls, San Sebastián”. At the same time, he was commissioned to make some drawings on bullfighting themes, for which he attended various bullfights to take the necessary sketches and collect them in his sketchbook. This is one of them, watercolor on paper, in which he perfectly reproduces different moments of a bullfight. The whereabouts and image of the final drawings that he gave to his client are unknown.
