Lot description
Immaculate Conception Oil on marble 42.5x34 cm - with frame 59x51 cm Dressed in a white tunic and a blue cloak, crowned with curly hair falling over her shoulders, the Virgin Mary is represented in full figure on a luminous background of clouds, with the moon, with its points pointing upwards, under her feet, and raised by a group of cherubs that emerge from under the cloak. The hands, crossed on the chest and the gaze turned upwards, derive from Guido Reni's female models. The painting is linked to the Immaculate Conception by Anton Raphael Mengs, preserved in the Royal Collection of Madrid, for its balanced and symmetrical composition, the very clear drawing and a palette composed of lively colours.
