Lot description

There are two other, very similar versions of the painting. A slightly larger copper version was sold together with its companion piece, "Simeon in the Temple," at Sotheby's, London, on October 29th 1998 (lot 11, 76 x 98.7 cm). According to the RKD, a third copper painting depicting the "Flight from Egypt" (RKD images 43816) also belongs to this pair. A much larger version of the "Circumcision" (118.5 x 182 cm), painted on canvas, was offered at Christie's, London in 1991 (lot 151).
