Lot description

Certificate Prof. Alberto Cottino, Turin, 2024 This newly identified work by Corrado Giaquinto is likely to have been executed in the ear-ly stages of his career, when the painter was still influenced by Solimena´s models, particu-larly in the strong luminous contrasts . The figure, reclined resting on a jar before a rocky landscape, is depicted in a posture which recall classical models and allow to identify the subject as an Allegory of a River God, a theme that Giaquinto often visited in his career. Particularly sticking are compositional and stylistic comparisons with canvases recently appeared on the Parisian and London Art Mar-ket, both dated around the 1730 (both illustrtated in Cottinos expertise).
