The catalogue of the exhibition in Bari reports the verbal opinion of Giancarlo Sestieri who fully ascribed the work to Giaquinto, dating it after his Spanish stay, between 1753 and 1762. Sestieri underlines how the classicist tendency and the less strong chiaroscuro relate to the mature style of the painter. Another version, with small variations, is now in the Milwaukee Art Center. According to Sestieri, the American piece, characterized by a stronger chiaroscuro, predates the painting offered here.
