Lot description
Signed and dated centre left: E. Collier fe 1676 This vanitas still life, dated 1676, was painted by Breda-born Collier during his time in Leiden, where he worked as of 1667 before moving to London in 1693. In a densely packed composition, it shows many of the characteristic objects including a skull and a clock, characteristic references to the transience of all earthly things. We would like to thank Dr Fred G. Meijer, Amsterdam for kindly confirming the authenticity of this piece upon examination of digital photographs.
