Lot description
Miss Bugs' Lolly Specimen Cabinet is a striking mixed-media wall sculpture exploring themes of addiction, consumer culture, and the aesthetics of contemporary desire. The piece features 21 unique resin-encased medical lollies arranged in a sleek white display case, each infused with an assortment of encapsulated pills, syringes, razor blades, and other objects, juxtaposing vibrant, candy-like hues with unsettling medical and technological elements. The sticks protruding from the lollies bear the warning Do Not H, reinforcing the work's underlying critique of society's dependence on pharmaceuticals and its commodification of vices. The duo Miss Bugs has exhibited internationally, pushing the boundaries of street art and fine art through bold, graphic compositions and mixed-media experimentation. This piece reflects their ongoing fascination with remix culture, digital aesthetics, and the intersection of art and contemporary social commentary. Signed on the certificate, this sculptural work is a testament to Miss Bugs' ability to merge pop culture allure with biting social critique. Miss Bugs, established in 2007, evolved from a background in photography and graphics, developing a distinctive approach that blends collage, screen printing, and hand-painted elements. Initially working with small-scale paper pieces and life-size urban installations, they transitioned to intricate resin-based works incorporating laser-cut wood and layered materials. Exhibited internationally in cities like New York, LA, Paris, and London, their work is featured in major private collections and was showcased in the 2021 Jealous x Saatchi Gallery exhibition RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW.
