Fleur Cowles, American/British 1908–2009 - Spring, 1990; acrylic and gesso on board, signed and dated lower right 'Fleur 90', 49.4 x 69.7 cm (ARR) Provenance: with Chris Beetles Ltd., London, (according to the label attached to the reverse of the frame); private collection Exhibited: Chris Beetles Ltd., London, 'Fleur Cowles', 30th May-15th June 1990, no.3 Note: Cowles was famous as a fashion editor and publisher, but also made and collected faux-naïve artworks, her own focused on animals and insects in an almost dream-like setting. She exhibited with the Grosvenor Gallery, London in 1966 and wrote on Salvador Dali.
