Lot description
Female Figure signed and dated 1972 (bottom) pen and ink on paper 11 3/4” x 9” (30 cm x 23 cm) Provenance Acquired directly from the artist Onib Olmedo’s 1972 Female Figure shows the beginnings of Onib’s signature distortion. Known for his disfigured subject matter, Female Figure was created just a year after Onib’s debut in the professional art scene and yet it shows the extent of the artist’s creative disregard for conventional human anatomy in favor of making physical human anguish. In this sketch, Onib depicts the woman as twisted and bent, her arm poised against her waist in an unnatural curve. Her face was disfigured, her hair falling over her shoulder as she looked over her shoulder, pinning the viewer with an inscrutable look. (Hannah Valiente)
