Lot description

Albert Lynch (Prussian/French, 1851-1912) LA JOLIE FILLE [THE PRETTY GIRL] oil on canvas signed lower right; inscribed on Frederick Gallery label on reverse h:18.50 w:15.50 in. Provenance: Frederick Gallery, Dublin, 2002; Private collection Exhibited: Frederick Gallery, Dublin, 2002 Albert Lynch studied at l'École des Beaux-Arts, under the guidance of painters Jules Achille Noël, Gabriel Ferrier and Henri Lehmann. He showed a portrait at the Salon in 1879, and continued to exhibit there regularly until at least 1934. At the Exposition Universelle of 1900 he received a gold medal. The women of his time were his favourite subject to paint and he preferred pastel, gouache and watercolour although he occasionally worked in the oil technique, as with this present work. His work maintained the spirit of the Belle Époque.
