Lot description

Edward Kington Brice (1860-1948) Village Cross, Ashton under Hill, Worcestershire signed 'E KINGTON BRICE.' l.r., oil on canvas 76.5 x 101.5cm Condition Report: Framed: 90 x 115.5cm The painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which has been lined. The canvas tension is good, there are minor undulations across the surface, visible in a strong light. The paint layers have developed a network of age cracks, some of which are slightly raised, leading to a few small, scattered losses. There is overpaint across the surface, reinforcing areas of the composition on the darker paint passages and covering wear and abrasion in the sky. The group of trees at the left side have been added to through overpaint to enhance the picture. The varnish is semi-matte and fairly even.
