Lot description
An exemplary artwork by Detroit-based artist Tyree Guyton whose practice engages intimately with re-purposed materials cast away from Detroit industry and found within the local environment to create his multi-media sculptures and paintings. From the, "Faces in the Hood series." Guyton writes, "The title was inspired by my pain and distress of a broken soul, a broken family, a broken community. The hope, however, lies in the smile. Through the smile, there is hope beyond the pain and we can smile our way out and into a brighter day. The imperfections and deformities in this work are part of my creative process. I create outdoors and purposely allow the elements to add a certain magic to my work. Life is not perfect - perfection is merely perception."
