1939. Oil/canvas. 85 x 81 cm. Lo. ri. sign. and dat. Ulrich Leman Mallorca 1939. - Exhibitions: The painting was exhibited: Ulrich Leman Gedenkausstellung, Wetzlar 1991 - Literature: The painting is published with ill. in: Ulrich Leman Gedenkausstellung. Ausst.-Kat. Wetzlar 1991, p. 56 - Provenance: Bought directly from the artist by the consignor's parents; thence by descent - German painter of the 'Rheinischer Expressionismus'. L. grew up in Danzig and studied at the Düsseldorf academy. He was master student of H. Nauen and member of the progressive artist's group 'Junges Rheinland'. After living in Greece for some time he moved to Mallorca in 1929. L. won numerous awards and exhibited all over the world, among others with Macke, Klee, Feininger, Heckel and Schmidt-Rottluff, but as a painter of the so called 'Lost Generation' he had to be rediscovered after WW II.
