1913 | technique: lithograph on paper | 600 x 430 mm | signature: bottom right | note: From the series Women of my dreams | framed under glass Lot description Frantisek Kobliha, an important Czech graphic artist and painter, is known for his fascination with symbolist and decadent motifs, which he also projected into the cycle "Women of my dreams". The lithograph "Salambo" from 1918 represents one of these works, in which Kobliha combines eroticism with mysticism and the atmosphere of a dream world. The figure of a naked woman with long, flowing hair is stylized in a symbolist frame, her pose conveying a kind of mixture of seductiveness and distant aloofness. The motif of the snake surrounding the woman can be understood as a traditional symbol of temptation, referring to biblical and literary precedents. The ornamental background is reminiscent of the art trends of the Art Nouveau period, which gives the work an aesthetic complexity.
