American, 1808-1889 Roman Vintage, 1872 (also known as Grape Harvest, Roman Vintage) Signed with the artist's monogram and dated Roma 1872 (lr); signed by John G. Chapman, dated Rome. 1872, and inscribed as titled and for A. O. Bigelow, Esq. Boston - US on the reverse Oil on canvas 33 1/8 x 23 7/8 inches Craquelure; 1 inch repaired tear to the subject's left with a corresponding glue patch on the reverse; a few spots of scattered inpainting including some at the chin and neck of the subject.
