John Rozelle b. 1944 Confluence 1980 acrylic on canvas with fabric collage 60-1/2 x 72-1/2 inches signed, dated, and titled verso Provenance: the collection of the artist The concept of confluence symbolizes the interpersonal dynamics of society, a concern to the artist. Rozelle also worked for a time in St Louis, where the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers meet, and it is reasonable to believe he also was referencing Mesopotamia, where the Tigress and Euphrates Rivers meet. Being deeply philosophical, Rozelle frequently incorporated historical and geographical references in his work to help guide people and most importantly, bring them together.
