Lot description

JEAN DON (1900-1985) PAU. Circa 1927. 41½x29½ inches, 105½x75 cm. Devambez, Paris. Condition B+: replaced losses at top corners; repaired tears, creases, abrasions and restoration in margins and image and along vertical and horizontal folds; repaired pin holes in margins. Don arrived in Paris from Bucharest during World War I. Before long, through a fortuitous connection with François André, he had completely acquainted himself with "Tout-Paris." André was the owner of casinos in Deauville, Cannes and La Baule, and singled Don out as his favorite designer and decorator. He commissioned Don to design posters and decorate balls and gala events for his wealthy clients. Rare.
