Lot description

FRANK NEWBOULD (1887-1950) WOODHALL SPA. Circa 1926. 39¾x24½ inches, 101x62¼ cm. Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, London. Condition B+: replaced losses and overpainting in margins; repaired tears at edges, some slightly into image; minor creases and abrasions in image. The daily sporting life in one of England's spa towns is suggested by the composition of an equestrian, golfer and tennis player on a manicured path between tall trees. In 1926, Frank Newbould was one of five artists contracted to work exclusively for the LNER for three years. He also worked for the Great Western Railway, The Orient Line (shipping company) and the Belgian Railways. Furness vol. 4, p. 9.
