GEORGES ARTEMOFF (1982-1965). "The hunt of the mink". Plaster. Measurements: 38 x 63 x 3,5 cm. Georges Artemoff was a French painter and sculptor of Russian origin. He studied both arts in his native region, in Rostov, and later in Moscow. In 1913 he obtained a scholarship that allowed him to study in Paris. There, Artemoff became acquainted with some of the greatest artists of the time, such as Juan Gris, Modigliani, Soutine, Picasso and Ossip Zadkine, with whom he shared the Atelier de la Ruche. After enlisting in the French army in 1914, he was seriously wounded. Between 1917 and 1921 he participated in the Russian counter-revolutionary movement. On his return to Paris in 1922, in addition to painting, he specialized in Art Deco sculpture and created decorations and sculptures on panels. From 1927, he exhibited regularly at the Société des Artistes Décorateurs, where he was awarded a gold medal for his work "Wild Boar Hunt" in 1928. A member of the Groupe des Animaliers, which exhibited his works at the Galerie Edgar Brandt in Paris, Artemoff was an advocate of the single work. He rarely produced double sculpted works and rarely produced limited edition sculptures. Artemoff also strongly defended his freedom of creation, refusing to be bound by contract to art dealers.
