Lot description

FRANK NEWBOULD (1887-1950) HOLLAND VIA HARWICH. Circa 1928. 40 1/4x50 inches, 102x127 cm. The Dangerfield Printing Co., London. Condition B+: repaired tears at edges, some into image; creases in margins and image. Framed. In 1926, Frank Newbould was one of five artists contracted to work exclusively for the LNER (the others were Tom Purvis, Austin Cooper, Frank Mason and Fred Taylor). The contract lasted for three years. It was most likely during this time that Newbould designed this poster showing some of the architecture in Amsterdam, with a view of the Oude Kerk (Old Church). Newbould did extensive work for the London & North Eastern Railway, but he also worked for the Great Western Railway, The Orient Line (shipping company) and the Belgian Railways. Furness vol. 8 p. 73.
