White (1871-1925) played leading roles in pictorial photography both during and after the heyday of the Photo-Secession. Stieglitz made his work highly visible in Secession exhibitions and publications. White also became widely known as a photographic instructor, teaching at both the school he established and elsewhere...The subject matter and the subtle tones of his platinum prints reflected the photographer's gentle, mid-western nature. White's photographic output was tempered by his teaching responsibilities, but his later pictures, made after World War I, show an awakening to cubist ideas." After the Photo-Secession by Christian A. Peterson, pp. 208-09.
