Lot description
ALBERT GONZALO CARBÓ (Tarragona, 1954). "Periplus of Avieno", 1986. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated and titled on the back. Size: 195 x 130 cm. Painter, engraver, lithographer, teacher and researcher, Albert Gonzalo claims to live in symbiosis with his work. Since his beginnings he has been fascinated by the East, always his source of inspiration. He first became interested in Sufi philosophy, which opened the door to Islamic thought. In his readings and travels, he undertook a journey through the religions and cultures of the East, from India to Japan via China; from Zen Buddhism to Taoism, without forgetting his classical Mediterranean roots. Within this dynamic, Gonzalo has shown his work in Asian contemporary art museums, and has taken part in several group exhibitions in Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. He also had a solo exhibition at the Nagoya University of Arts (Japan) in 2005. His paintings are the plastic expression of the link he has established between all the thoughts and images of Eastern cultures that he has processed throughout his life, bringing together everything that fascinates him. For him, painting is a reflection that takes on a certain form, disinterested in the plastic arts.
