Lot description
DOMÈNEC CARLES ROSICH (Barcelona, 1888 - Olot, Girona, 1962). "Flowers, 1932. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated in the lower right-hand corner and on the back. Measurements: 82 x 100 cm. Domènec Carles began his training, mainly self-taught, in Barcelona, and later spent some time in Paris between 1910 and 1913. There he attended the free academies and took part in the Salon d'Automne in 1912. During these years he held exhibitions of his work in Barcelona and Berlin. His painting, which is plain and soberly coloured, can be included in a neo-Impressionism in which colour, with its clear harmonisations, plays an essential role. Carles focused his production on landscape and flower painting, and also wrote articles on art from Paris for "La veu de Catalunya". He is the author of "Memoirs of a painter" (1944), and is represented in the Museums of Modern Art in Madrid and Barcelona, as well as in the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao.
