Lot description
Joseph David Greenbaum, American 1864-1940- Wooded river landscape with mountains in the distance; oil on canvas, indistinctly signed (lower right), 13 x 18 cm. (VAT charged on the hammer price). Note: Greenbaum was a highly skilled and versatile painter, gaining recognition for his landscape scenes as well as for his sensitive portraits and figure studies. His landscapes are characterised by his confident and impressionistic strokes of pigment, with his use of dusky colours in the present work, particularly purples, pinks, and oranges, powerfully evocative of the sunlight on a long summer evening.
