Lot description

CHARLES-CLEMENT CALDERON (FRENCH 1870-1906) Property of a Private Collection CHARLES-CLEMENT CALDERON (FRENCH 1870-1906) View of S. Maria della Salute, Venice signed C. Calderon (lower right) oil on canvas 80 x 65 cm Charles-Clément Calderon is known for his Symbolist and Art Nouveau style. He was a member of the Nabis group, a group of Post-Impressionist artists who sought to explore the decorative potential of art. He incorporated elements of nature into his work, and used a palette of rich, jewel-like colours as in the present work. Unfortunately, Calderon's life was cut short by illness, and he died at the age of 36. Despite his short career, his work continues to be an important part of the history of French art.
