Fritz GROTEMEYER (1864-1947) "berittene Artillerie", 1937 painting - oil on canvas, 71 cm x 110 cm, signed at the lower right, inscribed at the lower left, the impressive, large-format oil painting shows the "mounted artillery", three artillery teams, each pulled by 6 horses, crossing a valley inrapid speed, draft for a mural in the new artillery barracks built in Münster in 1938: as noted by the artist himself on the painting, this is a draft for a mural for the artillery officers home in Münster from 1937, the new artillery barracks (Portsmouth barracks) were built in 1938 for artillery units of the Wehrmacht ( Münstersches Art.-Reg. 16 or rather 52), however, the draft did not come to fruition
