Lot description

YONGLE PERIOD (1403-1425) The large basin finely potted with steeply rounded sides, exceptionally well painted in a rich cobalt-blue with characteristic 'heaping and piling', with six lotus blooms on the exterior borne on a scrolling stem growing smaller flowers and curly leaves below an undulating leafy scroll at the mouth rim, the interior decorated with a central medallion containing two large pomegranates amidst leaves and flowers, surrounded on the cavetto by six detached fruiting and flowering sprigs of peach, peony, crab-apple, chrysanthemum, lychee and rose, below a band of detached floral sprays 13 3/4 in. (34.8 cm.) diam., box
