Entrada $ 1.50. [Mexico City, 1938]. Poster printed in red and black (66.4 x 92.2 cm). A very rare poster announcing two lectures by André Breton in Mexico City in June 1938 that were cancelled. On April 2, 1938, André Breton and Jacqueline Lamba left Cherbourg aboard the Oronico: they were welcomed in Mexico by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. "Officially, Breton was to give four lectures on French literature and art. On 13 May he gave the first of the four at the university, "Modern Transformations of Art and Surrealism", and on the 17th he gave the first screening of Un chien andalou, the film by Buñuel and Dalí, at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. The other conferences were cancelled. Political unrest had preceded his visit and continued during it" (Salomon Grimberg). See André Breton collection (2003, nº 1654). Le 2 avril 1938, André Breton et Jacqueline Lamba partirent de Cherbourg à bord de l'Oronico: ils furent accueillis au Mexique par Frida Kahlo et Diego Rivera. "Officiellement, Breton devait donner quatre conférences sur la littérature et l'art français. Le 13 mai, il donna la première des quatre à l'université "Les Transformations modernes de l'art et du surréalisme" et le 17 donna la première projection d'Un chien andalou, le film de Buñuel et Dalí, au Palacio de Bellas Artes.
