Lot description

Patrick Graham (b.1943) Studies Series I, From the Studio (2016/'17) mixed media on paper signed top right h:80  w:111 cm. Provenance: Hillsboro Fine Art, Dublin; Private Collection One of the foremost artist to emerge as part of the Neo-Expressionist movement but only incidentally a Neo-Expressionist, Patrick Graham is a virtuoso draughtsman driven to address what might be called the human condition. That includes universal experiences, from longing to love to despair. He has also been a fierce critic of the hypocrisy of institutional authority, be it religious or secular, and he is distrustful of hierarchies, factors that lend his work an energy and even anger. There is always, though, a tenderness towards the individual human subject.
