ERNEST HIGGINS RIGG (1868-1947), TAKING A REST, signed lower right, oil on canvas, framed. 43.5cm by 59.5cm Note: Member of the Staithes Group of Artists. Painter of landscapes, coastal and genre scenes, he was born in Bradford and went on to study at the Bradford School of Art and subsequently at the Academie Julian in Paris. In 1896 he first travelled from Bradford to Staithes. Apart from the Staithes Art Club and local exhibitions, including the Yorkshire Union of Artists, he exhibited at Liverpool, Manchester, the Royal Society of British Artists.
