In good condition with original patina. The base measures 35" long x 6" wide. The top fan form piece measures 11 ¾" high x 16 ¾" wide. Carla Lavatelli was an American artist born in Rome on August 21, 1928. She grew up in a family of artists, inventors and engineers. Her uncle was Fedele Azari, the futurist. She was a figurative artist for approximately 10 years. During this time, she was very successful doing portraits. She was not interested in the vertical portrait, but rather in the luminosity of the eyes, the interior light, that expression called life. What she enjoyed most was doing family groups and heads of children like the ones of Princess Grace of Monaco and her family. Carla's good friend sculptor Isamu Noguchi submitted Carla's sculpture to a competition, she won and it was made into a monumental piece and placed it in front of the Society of the Four Arts in Palm Beach, Florida.
