Lot description
Study of a tiger initialled and dated 'TL 1864' (centre left) pastel 48 x 62.5cm (18 7/8 x 24 5/8in). Footnotes The inscription on an old label affixed to the reverse suggests that the work was made for Palmer esq. of the 14th Hussars and later purchased back by the artist. It is also suggested that the tiger depicted was housed at the Zoological Gardens in Regent's Park in the year that the work was created.
