Lot description
Studio of Juan de Arellano Santorcaz 1614 - 1676 Madrid the madonna and child inscribed on the cartouche lower left: IHS/MAR (in compendium) oil on canvas 151 by 105.7 cm.; 59 1/2 by 41 1/2 in. The composition relates, although with numerous differences, notably to the still life elements, to two other works, believed by Perez-Sanchez to be from the studio of Arellano; one is in the Capilla de Santa Tecla, Burgos Cathedral, the other in the Museo de Santa Cruz, Toledo (see Madrid, Fundacion Caja Madrid, Juan de Arellano, exh. cat., 1998., pp.67-68, reproduced p.70, fig. nos. 17 & 18).
