Winter landscape with figures Signed and dated 1843 l.r. Oil on paper on panel, 17.7 x 29.5 cm N.B.: Besides working as a painter Abraham van der Wayen Pieterzen also was the founder of the Vlaamsche Opleidingsschool in Laken where Vincent van Gogh was a pupil. Due to his Dutch nationality van Gogh was not allowed to continue studying at this school but the two remained in contact and Van der Wayen Pieterszen would become an important advisor for van Gogh during his life.
