Lot description
A Flower Still Life with Roses, a Carnation, a Parrot Tulip and Other Flowers, All in a Glass Vase Oil on canvas, a fragment 42.5 by 37 cm. Fred Meijer has kindly confirmed the attribution to Van Verendael (e?mail communication to the present owner, November 2015). In his opinion this work is a fragment, with the glass vase possibly added at a later stage (perhaps already in the early 18th Century). A comparable, characteristic work is for example a signed Cartouche decorated with flowerfestoons, of circa 1671?1675, in the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe; the handling of the flowers is very similar.
