Lot description
This oil on canvas is a fascinating juxtaposition of tonality and surface. An opus of contrast, the painting triumphs in a mastery of balance – the orange and black band creating a sense of serenity, the bottom painted by the National Artist in an intense explosion of his signature impasto technique. This work is especially significant having been painted just one year after Joya represented the country at the Venice Biennale.
