EDOUARD COLLIN (1906-1983) BORDEAUX - CASABLANCA / DE LA CIE GLE TRANSATLANTIQUE. 1951. 39 1/4x24 1/2 inches, 99 3/4x62 1/4 cm. S.A. Courbet, Paris. Condition A / A-: minor creases and abrasions at edges. Paper. Prior to the construction of the Hassan II mosque (the world's third largest) in 1993, Casablanca's ancient skyline would have been punctuated by the silhouettes of older mosques, such as the Moulay Youssef Mosque or the Mohammed V Mosque. Here, a shadow cast by one of those two, leaves a lingering exotic note on a liner sailing out of the port on its 50 hour journey back to Bordeaux. Orientalist p. 12.
