Separate handmade, Coleco, and later dolls

The value conversation changes once you know the era and maker. Early Little People originals, Coleco-era dolls, later Hasbro or Mattel examples, and modern releases are not priced the same way.

• Check the bottom signature, neck or body tags, head mold, body style, and manufacturing label.
• Keep adoption papers, birth certificate, original box, hang tags, and clothing with the doll.
• Do not remove stains or wash clothing before documenting condition.

Condition and completeness

Collectors look for clean faces, intact yarn hair, strong body stitching, original outfit, no odors, and paperwork that matches the doll. Boxed examples should be checked for box wear and whether the doll was removed.

• Ink marks, mildew, fading, replaced clothing, missing shoes, and detached tags can reduce interest.
• A signed bottom alone is not enough; the whole doll needs to be consistent.
• Photograph tags and paperwork clearly so the appraiser can verify the version.

What can make one doll stronger

Scarcer molds, early dates, desirable hair and eye combinations, excellent original clothing, and complete paperwork can increase collector demand. The strongest cases still need specific sold-result evidence.

• Avoid relying on high asking prices; many dolls are listed far above realized market levels.
• Condition and completeness often separate ordinary examples from serious collector candidates.

Before selling or insuring

Create a photo set with the front, back, signature, tags, clothing, papers, box, and defects. Note any odors, repairs, or cleaning history.
