Artist context

About Rex Newell

Nationality

Australian

Rex Newell is identified by Wikidata and VIAF as an Australian artist. VIAF connects the name with a Library of Congress authority record and with the publication Outback Pubs of Australia, providing a useful bibliographic anchor for entity matching. The collected sources otherwise offer little verified biographical detail: they do not establish birth or death dates, training, artistic movement, institutional collection history, or a career chronology. Collectors are nevertheless likely to encounter the name through auction listings. Appraisily's current artist index contains 149 matched public auction records dated from 2006 through 2025, including 96 priced results. Because the identity evidence is concise and the reported auction categories are broad, individual objects should be examined for signatures, inscriptions, medium, subject, date, provenance, and catalogue context before being confidently associated with this artist. This page therefore identifies Rex Newell as a documented Australian artist while leaving unsupported biographical details open.

Common works and media

The available auction index groups Rex Newell records under fine art and paintings, works on paper and prints, sculpture and mixed media, and decorative art and editions. Because the same source describes category concentration as broad or sparse, these headings should be treated as search and appraisal categories rather than a definitive catalogue of the artist's practice. For any submitted work, the physical medium, support, dimensions, signature, inscriptions, edition details, subject, and provenance should be documented directly.

Market and appraisal context

Appraisily's matched records show 149 auction lots, with 96 carrying reported prices and five sales recorded during the latest 12-month period represented on the source page. The displayed median realized result is about $130, with many comparable results reported between $60 and $240 and an overall observed range from $10 to $950. These figures describe the available public record; they are not price predictions for another object. A useful comparison should match medium, dimensions, date, subject, condition, attribution confidence, signature or edition information, provenance, and restoration history as closely as possible. Reporting conventions may differ, and private transactions, missing feeds, buyer's premiums, or revised attributions may change how a result should be interpreted.

Auction categories and appraisal factors

Common auction categories

  • Decorative art and editions

Value drivers

  1. Medium, dimensions, date, and period within the artist's career

  5. Recent comparable public auction sales for similar works
  6. Subject matter, rarity, and current demand

Appraisal caveats

  • Public auction records are a starting point rather than a final appraisal (source: https://appraisily.com/artist/rex-newell/).
  • Private sales, incomplete auction feeds, reporting differences, and later attribution changes may not be reflected (source: https://appraisily.com/artist/rex-newell/).
  • Authentication and condition can materially affect an individual result (source: https://appraisily.com/artist/rex-newell/).
  • The source page describes category concentration as broad or sparse, so its listed categories should not be treated as proof that a particular medium dominates this artist's market (source: https://appraisily.com/artist/rex-newell/).
